課程概述

許多場所儲藏了爭議記憶,包括港埠、戰場、戰俘營、監獄、戰事設施如碉堡、壕溝、飛行場等等,每個地點都可能是說故事的場景,然而誰來說,怎麼說?為了彰顯國家民族精神還是該更珍惜個人的痛苦、迷惘與掙扎?暗黑資產是如此需要耐心梳理,不能以過於強勢的燈光照明,不能太快調高對比洗去灰階。這堂課要邀請同學一同來認識暗黑的歷史與記憶,以及暗黑記憶成為襲產(被納入或排除)的過程如何重構城市。

暗黑地景觸及國家權威或不合時宜,往往被官方歷史消音以及文化襲產認證排斥,直到近二十年才有暗黑旅遊 (dark tourism)與暗黑襲產經營漸興。然而,暗黑故事說起來並不簡單,預期中的反省批判也未必發生,得到制度認可並不代表歷史的終結,常常,戰爭參與或監禁還是被說成了愛國犧牲的簡單故事。廣島原爆遺址或奧許維茲集中營,如今看似集體學習反省的重要場所,如何定位,背後滿是國際關係與政治意識的競爭。監獄、博物館、文化襲產,這些機構與制度隨著國族主義而茁壯發展,並非巧合,透過理論與經驗案例認識,這堂課希望能引領同學如旅人,走入爭議城市地景,學習在暗黑中看見存在於日常的暴力與解放監禁的機會。 

課程目標
本課程選讀文章跨越文化襲產研究、建築史、歷史研究、文化地理學與旅遊研究的相關襲產研究理論,以求促進同學認識襲產研究之跨領域發展。理論之外,案例研究方法(case study)亦為課程重要內容,課程選讀案將包括國內外案例,側重東亞及東南亞案例。尤其本學期將有兩週鎖定韓國暗黑襲產專題,邀請韓國旅英學者李錚炫博士演講。透過以上安排,盼能平衡襲產研究的歐洲本位視野,以亞洲地緣政治中的批判研究案例給相關研究帶來新的可能。 
課程要求
1. 出席 (10%, 缺席不可超過兩次,需事先請假,不可抗力緊急事件例外)
2. 發問+帶領討論 (30%,領讀兩次,每次15%;導讀同學之外,每位同學每次上課準備一個問題,課堂前一天晚上六點之前請貼在作業區「課前討論發問」)
3. 期中口頭報告+摘要 (15%, 建議由指定題目清單中選題,亦可找老師討論其他擬題,指定題目清單開學公布)
4. 期末報告 (35%,口頭10%加書面25%)

Guest speaker: Dr. Hyun Kyung Lee, Post-doc researcher, the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities, University of Cambridge and the International Center for Korean Studies, Kyujanggak Institute, Seoul National University. Her research interests include difficult heritage (post-colonial/cold war heritage), trans-national heritage networking, and the role of UNESCO programmes in East Asia. In collaboration with her Taiwanese colleague Shu-Mei Huang, Memory and Punishment: Heritage and De-commissioned Prisons in East Asia on the remembering of punishment in post-colonial Asian cities is forthcoming from Routledge. She is the author of Difficult Heritage in Nation Building: South Korea and Post-conflict Japanese Colonial Occupation Architecture (2018, by Palgrave Macmillan).
